Most of the people I encounter experience this feeling throughout their lives. You have a dream, a goal, an inspiration and rather than expending yourself to see it become a reality, you end up stuck somewhere on your journey to success. It is never planned, seldom prepared for, and usually comes at the most inopportune times. But one thing you can usually count on, it has happened before, and it will happen again. So, rather than getting surprised when it happens, know it is on the way and take some steps today to prevent it from getting you off-track.
Know Your Goal
Write down your goal and create a pathway to see it become a reality. I realize that the path you develop may not be feasible, realistic, or make sense, but taking the time to creatively think about it will help in the long run. Writing it down helps you to cement it in your mind and when the path gets rocky, foggy, dangerous, or difficult, it will help you to stay the course.
Talk to Yourself
Most healthy people do this all the time, anyway, so do it often and do it out loud. If you do not learn to encourage yourself aloud, there may be seasons in your life when you never hear an encouraging word. Say things like, “You can do this!”; “Do not get side-tracked!”; “Just one more step, one more hour, one more day!” or “Look how far you have come, don’t give up!” You get the picture. Hear yourself say those words. Write them down. Put them on sticky notes around your home, in your car, or workspace.
Talk to God
Whether you feel stuck, have lost momentum, or feel lost, help is just a few words away. He wants you to invite Him into your situation. He wants you to admit you need His help. That puts all the hope on Him and not just on your own talent, strength, or ability. The Bible tells us that He is a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1), so if you feel stuck, are in trouble, or you just need some direction, help could be a prayer away.
Know your goal, talk to yourself, and talk to God. Here is a simple three-pronged approach to get out of your rut and build momentum. You will not lose anything by trying it and it may just be the catalyst that makes the difference for you. Let me know how it turns out.
